07. Grades

Assessment and grading is based upon classroom participation, assigned work and projects, tests, attitude and cooperation. The
following grading scale will be used:
100-90 % A
89-80 % B
79-70 % C
69-60 % D
59% or below F

In addition to a semester report card, progress reports will be mailed home during the 6th week of each semester.

Late Work Policy
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure class work is turned in on time. Late work will be accepted by teachers until the end of the
current instructional unit. Assignments turned in late will result in a reduction in the overall grade for that assignment.
 

PowerSchool
Emporia Middle School uses PowerSchool for its online student management system to maintain accurate student information.
Parents/guardians can access this website to monitor their child’s academics and attendance. Login information is available from the
secretaries in the office. The website can be accessed from the homepage of the USD 253 website, www.usd253.org.

Promotion and Retention(Refer to Board Policy JFB)

Students may be promoted or retained when they have demonstrated mastery of the board-approved learning objectives. The final decision to promote or retain a student shall rest with the Superintendent or Superintendent's designee after receiving information from parents/guardians, teachers, and other appropriate school personnel.
